Gourds and Kids: Art Projects

Artistic Gourds: if your kids can be trusted with paint they can paint faces right on the gourds themselves but the secret is that markers work just as well if you’re scared about the mess.
Birdfeeder: Gourds are easy to make into a bird feeder! Simply cut a hole in the body and scoop out the insides – give the thing a few days to dry out and harden and then you’ve got an instant bird sanctuary! Throw in some bird food and hang it from a tree.
Maracas: If your kids like music they’ll love gourd maracas. Simply cut off the top, scoop out the insides, allow the plant to dry out then fill with beans or rice! Tape up the hole in the top and get your band going!
